Good to know about Francisco
- Water and sewer. Francisco has no water treatment plant and buys its water from Pike-Gibson (minimum charge $45.38 for 2,500 gallons plus tax, under a tracker ordinance that follows Pike-Gibson's rates); the town sewer system was installed in 2003, with a monthly minimum of $29.84 for a 5/8-inch meter plus $0.0102 per gallon. - Gas and electric (town). The town says Francisco gets electric service from Duke Energy (1-800-521-2232) and natural gas service from CenterPoint Energy (1-800-227-1376). The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission's electric service territory map also places Francisco in Duke Energy's territory. Source
- History. The town says Francisco was platted on the east side of the Wabash and Erie Canal by John Perkins in 1851 and incorporated in 1907. Source
- Underground coal mines. Francisco is in coal country: the Indiana Geological & Water Survey published a 1998 study of the mining history of the Francisco, Somerville and Liberty underground coal mines in eastern Gibson County. Source
- Mine subsidence insurance. Gibson County is one of the 26 southwestern Indiana counties covered by the state's Mine Subsidence Insurance Fund; the coverage is not automatic and can be added to a homeowners policy through your insurance agent. Source
